Symmetry Energy in the Equation of State of Asymmetric Nuclear Matter

چکیده
The symmetry energy is an important quantity in the equation of state of isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. This currently unknown quantity is key to understanding the structure of systems as diverse as the neutron-rich nuclei and neutron stars. At TAMU, we have carried out studies, aimed at understanding the symmetry energy, in a variety of reactions such as, the multifragmentation of Here we present an overview of some of the results obtained from these studies. The results are analyzed within the framework of statistical and dynamical models, and have important implications for future experiments using beams of neutron-rich nuclei.

Matter Equation of State with a Three - body Force
The finite temperature Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach is extended by introducing a microscopic three-body force. In the framework of the extended model, the equation of state of hot asymmetric nuclear matter and its isospin dependence have been investigated. The critical temperature of liquid-gas phase transition for symmetric nuclear matter has been calculated and compared with other predicti...
متن کاملEquation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter and collisions of neutron-rich nuclei
The ratio of pre-equilibrium neutrons to protons from collisions of neutron-rich nuclei is studied as a function of their kinetic energies. This ratio is found to be sensitive to the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy, but is independent of the compressibility of symmetric nuclear matter and the inmedium nucleon-nucleon cross sections. The experimental measurement of this ratio t...
متن کاملAsymmetric Nuclear Matter : A variational Approach
We discuss here a self-consistent method to calculate the properties of the cold asymmetric nuclear matter. In this model, the nuclear matter is dressed with s-wave pion pairs and the nucleonnucleon (N-N) interaction is mediated by these pion pairs, ω and ρ mesons. The parameters of these interactions are calculated self-consistently to obtain the saturation properties like equilibrium binding ...

Nuclear matter is a convenient theoretical laboratory to test many-body theories. When neutron and proton densities are different, the isospin dependence of the nuclear force gives rise to the symmetry energy term in the equation of state. This quantity is a crucial mechanism in the formation of the neutron skin in nuclei, as well as in other systems and phenomena involved in the dynamics of ne...
متن کاملSymmetry Energy of Nuclear Matter and Properties of Neutron Stars in a Relativistic Approach
Asymmetric nuclear matter is treated in the formalism of Dirac-Brueckner approach with Bonn one-boson-exchange nucleon-nucleon interaction. We extract the symmetry energy coefficient at the saturation to be about 31 MeV, which is in good agreement with empirical value of 30±4 MeV. The symmetry energy is found to increase almost linearly with the density, which differs considerably from the resu...
